B5S3 - Listening 2

Fred: Hello, Betty! How was your weekend?

Betty: Hi, Fred! It was a bit boring. I stayed home all weekend, but I got to watch some TV.

Fred: Really? What did you watch?

Betty: I watched a documentary about famous crimes, and it was kind of terrifying. Have you ever heard of the Zodiac Killer?

Fred: The Zodiac Killer? No, I’ve never heard of him. Why is he famous? Those kinds of documentaries are often very interesting.

Betty: Well, he’s known as the most famous serial killer in American history. Even though he left encrypted letters in which he claimed to have killed 37 people, the police only identified seven victims, including two who survived.

Fred: Really? That’s very scary. Why is he called the Zodiac Killer?

Betty: He gave himself that name in the letters, but no one ever identified who really did it. The case remains open nowadays even though the events took place in the 1960s.

Fred: It reminds me of another famous serial killer, but in England. Do you remember Jack the Ripper?

Betty: Of course, his famous crimes are also still unsolved. His victims were mostly women. It happened between 1888 and 1891.

Fred: A lot of movies have been made to tell the story of this murderer.

Betty: That’s true! Hey! We should watch one of them this afternoon.

Fred: Sure! I’ll buy the popcorn. I’ll see you back at your place in an hour.
