Podcast – The September 11 Attacks’

Hi, everyone! This is Andrew Williams reporting from New York City. Adjust the volume of your mobile, computer, tablet, or whatever device you prefer to listen to one of the most shocking events in US history. Today marks another anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. September 11, 2001, or “9/11”, saw a series of attacks on American territory when a group of terrorists of Al-Qaeda took over four airplanes and targeted important buildings of the United States. The intention of the terrorists was to damage the American Government by hitting the White House or the Capitol building, the American Defense system at the Pentagon, and mainly the world’s economy that had an important seat at the World Trade Center. Two planes crashed into both Twin Towers in New York City, where the World Trade Center operated. Another airplane collided with the Pentagon and a fourth one was bravely crashed down by the passengers, avoiding the plane to hit any Government building. Many New York firefighters and paramedics went to rescue people inside the buildings, but not all of them survived the collapse of the Twin Towers. President George W. Bush, who declared a State of Emergency, was transported to New York that same night. Today, a monument is placed where the New York attacks occurred, leaving a sense of pain to whoever remembers what happened there.
