B2S3 - Listening 1

Susan: Hi, Aaron! What will you do tomorrow afternoon?

Aaron: Hey, Susan! I think I will go to the library. And you?

Susan: I’m going to go to the movies with my friends. And what will you do at the library?

Aaron: I’ll investigate about what a translator must know to do his job successfully. I want to be a translator like my mom.

Susan: That is excellent! But don’t you think that nowadays there are a lot of digital translators that may replace people?

Aaron: Yes, there are a lot of websites or devices that translate, but it will never replace a person’s translation.

Susan: Why?

Aaron: Because a translator must adapt language to the people who will receive the text. You must be very careful because you must be sure that the message has not changed.

Susan: Oh, I see. And an electronic translator will never be able to do that, right?

Aaron: Exactly. Only a translator is aware of respecting cultures and perspectives when changing from one language into another. My mom knows four languages, and she always says that learning a new language, is acquiring a new culture.

Susan: That sounds very interesting. I am not going to forget that. Well, if you finish early at the library, my friends and I will be watching movies at my house. I hope you can join us.

Aaron: Oh, thanks. I´ll try to be there.

Susan: Okay, then I’ll see you tomorrow.

Aaron: Sure, bye!
